History and Traditions: This plant has been used by cultures all over the world, since ancient times, for healing and spiritual purposes. In different traditions, the fragrance of cedar incense was used to purify and to create a bridge between heaven and earth, to drive away nightmares, to clean sacred spaces and houses. It was also believed that it could attract good spirits and eliminate negative energies. Natives of North America burn cedar while praying, the smoke thus produced will transport their prayers to the Creator. It is also used in purifying huts, a few pinches are thrown on hot rocks generating a yellow glow and releasing the good aroma.
